What are the consequences of not having Cambridge as the exam writer for IMAT 2023?

For students who are currently studying or attempting to enter the Medicine and Surgery programs in Italy, there may be some uncertainty about the future of the IMAT exam. However, there is good news! Cambridge has confirmed that the IMAT will still be offered in 2023, although it will no longer be written by Cambridge.

Despite this change, the general content and structure of the exam should remain relatively similar, with only minor modifications to be expected. As to what these modifications might entail, much depends on who will be responsible for writing the future exam. If the Italian Ministry of Education takes on this task, it is possible that the questions will be similar but may more closely resemble those found on the Medicina test, which is specific to the Italian Medicine and Surgery program.

On the other hand, if an outside agency is tasked with writing the exam, it will likely maintain the same level of difficulty and content while incorporating the style of the new test writers. While it is difficult to predict exactly what changes will be made, students can rest assured that they will be well-prepared for the exam as long as they continue to study diligently and stay up-to-date on any updates or modifications to the test.

Medicine In Italy 2023 – What Are The Changes?

Aspiring medical students in Italy have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming changes to the Italian Medicine exam. These changes, while not directly related to the International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT), may have an impact on its future.

Starting in 2023, the Italian Medicine exam will be written twice a year, with test dates in April and July. This is a significant change from previous years, which only offered one exam date per year. Furthermore, students will no longer be required to pass the esami di maturità (Italian High school graduation test) before sitting for the entrance exam. Instead, students can now take the exam as early as their fourth year of high school.

This change provides a more excellent opportunity for students to prepare and focus on their medical studies earlier on, potentially increasing their chances of acceptance into medical school. Additionally, some universities are expected to offer online resources to help prepare for the exam, which may include practice tests, study materials, and more. However, the extent and effectiveness of these resources are currently unknown.

It is important to note that these changes only apply to the Italian Medicine exam and not the IMAT. However, the changes may have an impact on the future of the IMAT as well. For instance, the shift towards offering the exam twice a year may lead to greater competition among students, making it more challenging to secure a spot in medical school.

The Italian Medicine exam, known as the TOLC, has undergone some significant changes in recent years. These changes may provide us with insight into what the future of the IMAT may look like.

One notable change in the TOLC is the shift towards computer-based testing. While the IMAT is still paper-based, it is possible that it may move towards computer-based testing in the future. This change would have numerous benefits for students, such as receiving their results faster and reducing the risk of losing their exam scores, which has been an issue in previous years.

In addition to computer-based testing, the TOLC also offers the exam multiple times a year. The IMAT, on the other hand, is only offered once a year. However, with the recent changes to the TOLC, it is possible that the IMAT may follow suit and offer the exam more than once a year. This would provide students with additional opportunities to take the exam and increase their chances of being accepted into medical school.

It is important to note that while the TOLC and the IMAT share some similarities, they are still distinct exams with different purposes and structures. However, as we see changes in the TOLC, we can expect that the IMAT may also undergo changes in the future.

Regardless of any changes to the exam structure, it is essential for students to stay focused and prepared for the IMAT using the same resources as we recommended in previous year. With the right mindset and preparation, students can succeed on the exam and increase their chances of being accepted into medical school.

IMAT 2023 Deadlines

In the following sections, we will provide you with a comprehensive guide that outlines all the critical dates and deadlines you need to know when preparing for and taking the IMAT exam to study medicine in English in Italy.

IMAT 2023 Expected Timeline and Preparation Flow
IMAT 2023 Expected Timeline and Preparation Flow

Step 1: IMAT Pre-enrollment (April – June 2023)

If you’re a non-EU student planning to take the International Medical Admission Test (IMAT) in 2023, pre-enrollment is the first step in the application process for studying medicine in Italy in English. Pre-enrollment involves obtaining a Declaration of Value (DoV), which confirms that your graduation diploma is sufficient and compatible for studying medicine in Italy.

You can obtain a DoV by contacting your nearest Italian consulate or embassy and requesting the necessary paperwork for medical schools in Italy in English. They will provide you with the documents you need and tell you which ones require translation.

At EnterMedSchool, we are committed to providing accurate and up-to-date information when it comes to studying medicine in Italy. We offer free study materials for the IMAT exam, including past papers and worked solutions, which can be used during your preparation. These resources can provide valuable insights and feedback to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and develop a targeted study plan.

We recommend that you start studying about six months before the exam to ensure that you have enough time to prepare. Familiarize yourself with the exam format and structure, and focus on strengthening your knowledge in key areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.

In addition to pre-enrollment and exam preparation, we recommend that you consider joining study groups or working with a tutor to supplement your preparation. These resources can provide valuable insights and feedback to help you stay on track and achieve your goals.

Step 2: IMAT Registration (July 2023)

Only non-European candidates need to do pre-enrollment, but even European candidates need to translate their documents if they are not in English or Italian, to get their DOV!

If you’ve completed pre-enrollment for the International Medical Admission Test (IMAT), you’re one step closer to studying medicine in Italy. However, you’re not officially enrolled for the IMAT exam yet. To do so, you need to apply online through the dedicated website, www.universitaly.it. The online applications for IMAT open on July 4 and are open for the first three weeks of July.

To help you navigate the online application process, we’ve created a step-by-step tutorial that walks you through the process. Follow these steps to apply for the IMAT 2023 exam:

  1. Go to the dedicated website for IMAT applications, www.universitaly.it.
  2. Register on the website by creating an account.
  3. Once you’ve registered, select the “IMAT” option under “Admission Test” on the homepage.
  4. Follow the instructions to complete your application, including declaring your International Medical School of first choice and your IMAT test center.
  5. Pay the small subscription fee (around 130 euros) for the test itself. Make sure you receive your payment receipt and keep it until the test day.
  6. After completing your application, double-check that all information is correct and submit it.

Once you’ve completed the online application process, you’re one step closer to taking the IMAT exam. We recommend that you use the time leading up to the exam to study and prepare.

We’ve created a comprehensive guide to help you choose the best International Medical School in Italy. Check it out our homepage interactive map to learn more about your options and make an informed decision about where to study!

Step 3: The IMAT Exam – September 2023

The official IMAT decree provides valuable information about the exam, including the test centers around the world and test start time. However, due to recent developments, it’s likely that the IMAT exam will only take place in Italy this year. As Cambridge won’t be writing the exam, it’s uncertain whether the test will be administered in other countries as well. Keep this in mind as you prepare for the exam, and stay updated on any developments.

If you’re planning to take the IMAT exam in Italy, we recommend arriving at least a week before the test date. This will give you time to adjust to a new environment and reduce stress on the day of the exam. It’s also an excellent opportunity to explore Italy and enjoy everything the country has to offer before focusing on your studies.

However, it’s important to note that applying for a visa can be a time-consuming process, especially during the current situation. We recommend starting the application process as soon as possible to ensure that you have enough time to obtain a visa and make travel arrangements.

The official test date for IMAT 2023 is yet to be confirmed, but it typically takes place in September. The exam must be taken in person at one of the designated test centers in Italy. Test locations tend to remain the same every year, but any updates will be published in August. Last year, there were 13 test centers in Italy.

When you apply for the exam, you’ll need to select your preferred location in Italy. It’s important to note that you’ll be obligated to sit the IMAT in the location of your first choice preference.

On the day of the test, you’ll need to arrive at the selected location well in advance of the official start time. Your identity will be checked, and you’ll be given instructions on how to conduct the examination correctly. The official IMAT regulations provide more information on what is and isn’t allowed to bring with you on the test day, as well as some additional advice.

With these details in mind, you can focus on completing your preparation and achieving a high score on the IMAT 2023. At EnterMedSchool, we provide free study materials, including past papers and worked solutions, to help you develop a targeted study plan and excel on the exam. Start exploring our website today to discover the resources and guidance you need to succeed!

Last Step: Post-IMAT, What To Do Next?

As a student, waiting for the results of the IMAT exam can be an anxious time, especially after putting in countless hours of preparation. However, knowing what to expect and when can help to alleviate some of the stress and uncertainty.

In late September 2023, preliminary results of the IMAT exam will be released. These results will only show individual test scores and will not indicate an IMAT ranking position or acceptance into an Italian medical school. Moreover, results will be anonymous, meaning that students can view the scores of other IMAT takers without access to their names.

By early October 2023, students can access their IMAT scores and a scan of their actual answer sheet in their reserved area on the Universitaly portal. However, it is essential to note that this will not indicate acceptance into a medical school but will provide a clear understanding of their test performance.

Non-EU students should prepare all necessary documents for their student visa application as soon as possible, preferably before receiving the final IMAT results. The timeline for enrollment in a university can be short, and a student visa is required to study in Italy.

While the IMAT exam can be a challenging and stressful experience for all students, non-EU candidates face a particular challenge when it comes to enrollment in an Italian medical school. Unlike their EU counterparts, non-EU students are not eligible for the scrolling system, which means that they are unable to choose a different university if they are not accepted to their first-choice institution.

The scrolling system is a process that allows EU candidates to switch to a different university if their score is not high enough to get admitted to their preferred institution. Each round of the scrolling process takes 4-5 days, during which students use the Universitaly portal to confirm their choice or switch to another university. In each round, a small portion of the top-performing students is given a certain number of seats in the university. This way, the university seats are slowly filled over a few rounds instead of at once, as is the case with non-EU seats.

Unfortunately, non-EU candidates are not eligible for this system, which can make it more difficult for them to secure a place in an Italian medical school. It is vital for non-EU candidates to carefully consider their options and plan accordingly, ensuring that all necessary documents are prepared and submitted on time. While it may be more challenging for non-EU candidates to gain acceptance, it is not impossible, and with dedication and perseverance, they can achieve their dreams of studying medicine in Italy.
