Hey guys! Ari is here! I wanted to write this article to help you figure out when and how you can register for IMAT 2025. Considering how difficult and weird the registration for the last IMAT was, I thought it would be a good idea to write this article much earlier than the start of the registration itself so you know what to do when, and how to register.

If you’re completely new to the IMAT exam this article will help you understand when to register, but I will also attach below a few more articles that will help you to choose a university, your options, pros and cons of taking the IMAT and studying in Italy – and so much more! For now let’s get started and discuss how and when to register for IMAT 2025!

  1. Registration for IMAT 2025 is expected to open in early July 2025 and last until the end of July 2025. Unless they wait for the last moment, similar to what happened the year before, then the registration will take place in the same month as the IMAT – September 2025.
  2. From April to July 2025, you will need to create an account on Universitaly.it and make sure all your details are correct – especially if you are a non-EU candidate living in the EU and want to be considered European in the system, you will have to make sure you register correctly using your European ID and documents and not the documents from your home country (for example, if you live in Italy you will need to upload your permesso, not your Non-EU passport)
  3. From February to June 2025, you must register on the websites of the few universities requiring pre-enrollment, such as Turin, Messina, etc. This list will be updated on the website once we get more information about it later this year. If you don’t know what pre-enrollment is, please check the articles above and read them first; it will give you a better idea of what to do before registering for the IMAT 2025 exam.

I took 2 years off my studies to work full time on this project – the most comprehensive, popular, and affordable IMAT course available today. Updated based on IMAT 2024’s questions.

IMAT 2025 Test Centers

One of the most important aspects of the IMAT is where you can take it. Luckily, every year, they slowly add more and more test centers. I am attaching the test centers that we had in 2024, and we should expect more or less the same (if not a few more) test centers for IMAT 2025.

Locations where the IMAT will be administered:

  • Albania
  • Azerbaijan
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • China
  • Cyprus
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hong Kong
  • India

In Italy, the IMAT will be hosted by several universities across different cities:

In addition to Italy, IMAT test centers will also be available in the following countries:

  • Ireland
  • Pakistan
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Africa
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • UAE (Dubai)
  • UK
  • USA

Which Test Center Should I Choose?

Every year, the Universitaly website where you register for the exam, tends to experience heavy traffic, especially during the first few hours of registration. This often leads to the site crashing or loading slowly, which can be particularly frustrating if you’re trying to secure a spot in a high-demand test center.

Certain test centers, such as those in Pakistan and India, tend to fill up very quickly. If you have the flexibility, I strongly advise considering a test center with more available seats, such as those in Italy. Although it may require obtaining a visa and traveling, it could save you the inconvenience. If you fail to secure a spot in your preferred test center, you might have to make last-minute arrangements just days before the IMAT, which can be extremely stressful.

Unfortunately, every year, I have a few students who miss the opportunity to register on time, and they have to fly to a different country to take the exam – please make sure you are prepared for such cases.

Make sure you choose a center with many seats; this way, you can focus entirely on your exam preparation without the added worry of logistics.

What if I take the exam in Italy?

If you take the exam in Italy, you must take it at your first choice university. For example, if you put Pavia as your first (and only if you are non-EU), you must travel to Pavia and take it there. I will be there to say hi before and after the exam! I go to the test center every year.

[Video] How to Use the Universitaly Website to Register for IMAT 2025

To successfully register for the IMAT 2025, you must navigate the Universitaly website from July 2025 (after you have created an account from April 2025). The process can be scary, especially with the tight timeline, but I’ve got you covered. The video attached below shows you a step-by-step guide on creating an account, selecting your preferred university, uploading your diplomas, and making your university choices.

Key Points for Non-EU and EU Candidates:

  • As a non-EU candidate, your first choice of university is the only one that matters. The system will allocate your spot based solely on this preference, so choose wisely.
  • As an EU candidate, I recommend listing your university choices in your actual order of preference. There’s always a chance that last-minute changes to the system could occur, and it’s best not to take any unnecessary risks. So while your first choice matters the most, make sure to actually select all universities in a sequence that makes sense to you (select all of them, not only the unis you want to go to, because you never know.

Make sure to complete your registration In July 2025 as soon as it opens, usually in the afternoon (CET time). Remember the website often experiences heavy traffic, so early registration is crucial to securing your preferred test center and university choices.
